About scale

[About scale]
Most of these images are at the nanometer scale.  This is really small.

1 nanometer (nm) = 0.000000001 meter (m) or 0.00000004 in
The wavelength of visible light is 400-800 nm.  We see objects because of the light bouncing off of them being seen by our eyes, nanometer scale objects are so small the the most of the light waves miss them.

Some of the images are reported with a magnification (44k x for example).  k means thousand and x means times.  Take a one foot ruler at:

44k x = ~8.3 miles
22k x = ~4.15 miles
11k x = ~2.07 miles

These are magnifications I seem to use a lot.
